Good Morning, Winelands
First things first: a big, warm welcome to everyone who's joined us over the last couple of weeks. Maybe a friend forwarded this, maybe you found us over a tasting, maybe you clicked a link and decided to stay. However you got here, we're glad you did. Every Thursday we do the digging across Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and Somerset West, so you can skip the scrolling and just turn up. There are a lot more of us now, and that's exactly the point.
Now, the week. The lunchboxes are back (schools went back on Tuesday), but the town isn't quite ready to let go: Woordfees runs until Sunday, and its final weekend is its busiest. Saturday is International Pinotage Day, and the forecast is giving us 27° to celebrate it. Plan to be outside.
And last week we asked where you go to fill your cup. More than half of you gave the same answer. The results are at the very end, so no skipping ahead. (Okay, you can skip ahead.)
What we’ve got for you this week:
Things To Do & Events
Winelands Talk: A closed pass and a World Cup for Paarl
Little Insiders: Puppets, lost socks and a wolf on the organ
Eye Catching Deal: An afternoon off, spa-style
Weather: Top picks = Sat to Mon
Property Of The Week: A hidden bar and room for six cars in Worlds View
Mind, Health & Fitness: The five-day desk escape
A Little Extra Inspo: Your poll results are in
Together with Klapn

Lost in the Winelands? There's an App for That
Fancy a Saturday hike up Jonkershoek but nobody to go with? One player short for padel? Klapn was built for exactly that moment.
Open the app to see a map of meetups near you: a gravel loop, a sunrise run along the Eerste River, a dawn surf, a beach volleyball game needing two more. Each shows the pace, level and starting point, so you turn up where the pin says. Or create your own meetup for others to join.
Clubs can run season leaderboards, cafés and farms can become "RollPoints" where meetups start, and everyone can flag danger spots and check the weather along the route.
Your people are out there. Now you can connect with them.

Winelands Talk
Franschhoek Pass is closed to everyone. More slips and bridge damage mean the pass is shut to all traffic, cyclists and walkers included. Heading to the Overberg? Take another route.
Paarl gets the Cricket World Cup. Boland Park has been picked as one of the venues for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. International cricket, back in the Winelands.
A new way to see La Motte. Swap the tasting room for a 5km circular hike through vineyards and fynbos, with Franschhoek Valley views all the way. Allow two to three hours, and guided hikes are available.
Waterford's Antigo finds its home. Waterford Estate's Cabernet-led Antigo has joined the Estate range with its 2022 vintage. Grown on red clay, it's a softer, more approachable side of the estate's Cabernet.
Kayamandi's young cyclists steal the show. Around 150 riders aged 7 to 18 lined up for Songo.info's first Mini Champions Race at Kayamandi Sports Field, with families cheering from the side. Future Wines2Whales riders, every one of them.

Room for everyone, and then some, in Worlds View
High in Somerset West's Worlds View, this five-bedroom family home has space for the whole family and everyone who comes to visit. A double-volume entrance leads to a lounge with a fireplace and balcony, and a separate dining room opens onto a courtyard.
The family room is the heart of it: an indoor braai, a wood-burning fireplace, underfloor heating, and a bar hidden behind the wooden cabinetry. The kitchen has granite tops, a scullery and a walk-in pantry. There's a study plus a second workspace, a covered, heated pool, and solar with battery backup for when the lights go out.

The five-day desk escape
Here's a slightly uncomfortable sum. Most of us spend more of our waking week in a chair than we do asleep in bed. The fix isn't a gym membership. It's moving a little, often. So here's this week's challenge: one small thing a day, no kit, no sweat, no shower needed.
Monday: Try 20-8-2. For every half hour at your desk, sit for 20 minutes, stand for 8 and move for 2. Set a timer. It feels silly by lunchtime and normal by Thursday.
Tuesday: Take the stairs, fast. Tuesday's the wet one, so make it a stairs day. Climb a flight or two briskly, three times. These little bursts have a name, "exercise snacks", and they add up.
Wednesday: Walk your calls. Any call that doesn't need a screen happens on your feet, outside if you can.
Thursday: The lunchtime loop. Fifteen minutes out and back. The Eerste River path in Stellenbosch, the oaks on Paarl's Main Street, the length of Franschhoek's Huguenot Street. Your inbox will survive.
Friday: Book the mountain. Put one weekend walk, ride or run in the diary with someone else. Knowing a person is waiting at the trailhead is the best motivation there is.
None of it is dramatic. That's the whole idea. Your back, your head and your 3pm slump will thank you. Go on, stand up. Now's good.
A Little Extra Inspo
🗳️ The results are in: where do you go to fill your cup?
Up a mountain: 52%
Nowhere. The stoep, a blanket and the dogs will do: 16%
A garden stroll: 11%
My favourite café, with a book and nobody asking for anything: 11%
Over the pass to the sea: 11%
It wasn't close. This is officially a hiking-boots readership. And let’s be real, with Jonkershoek, the Simonsberg, Paarl Rock and the Helderberg on our doorstep, of course it is.
If you're one of the mountain crowd but usually head up alone, this week's spotlight might be your answer. Klapn shows you who's walking, running or riding near you, or lets you post your own outing and see who joins.
And to the stoep-and-dogs crew: we see you, and we respect it deeply. The Silent Book Club at Helderberg Farm on Saturday has your name on it.
