Good Morning, Winelands

October is finally here and Stellenbosch is about to get very busy. From tomorrow night, the Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees takes over the town for nine days: sixty-odd venues, comedians, cookbook authors, sunrise walks and a long table down Ryneveld Street to open it all. This year's theme is "Dis hoog tyd", roughly "it's about time". We agree.

It's also the last long weekend of the school holidays (schools are back on Tuesday), Restaurant Week is on across the Winelands, and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so a few of this week's picks do some good while you're at it.

And one for the planners. On Saturday 17 October, Glen Carlou is opening its cellar to just 60 guests for the kind of tasting you rarely get to do: its two signature wines poured across the years, older vintages and all. It's at the end of Food & Drink. We'd book early.

What we’ve got for you this week:

  • Things To Do & Events: Woordfees takes over Stellenbosch

  • Winelands Talk: Stellenbosch and Cape Town join forces

  • Little Insiders: Shows for little ones and the last days of the holidays

  • Eye Catching Deal: Restaurant Week set menus from R445pp

  • Weather: Top picks = Sun + Mon

  • Property Of The Week: Fireside evenings and forest trails in Paradyskloof

  • Mind, Health & Fitness: Who sits at your table?
